What are we working on right now?
September 2014: Right now we are learning to use our voice musically. We have been doing echo singing and singing in call and response style. We are also learning about patterns in music and in stories. Sometimes we play those patterns on our classroom instruments.
October 2014: We are continuing to learn how to use our voices musically. We are also learning to keep the steady beat. We are doing this in many ways. We are also continuing to use music in stories. We are also learning some Halloween songs.
November 2014: We are continuing to get used to using our voice as an instrument. We have been singing a lot and doing many echo songs. This month we will start playing a few classroom instruments and work on learning to keep the beat.
December 2014: We are continuing our work with steady beat and beginning to explore different rhythms. We will also be singing some Christmas songs.
January 2015: This month we will be playing the steady beat on classroom instruments. We will also be singing a large variety of songs.
February 2015: This month we have been working on being able to identify verse and chorus in a song. We have also been working on ecoing more complex songs. Of course, we will be singing some Valentines Day songs too.
March 2015: We are continuing to work on echoing more complex rhythms. We are even learning how they are written. We play a really fun game called 'Poison Rhythm' to see if we can hear the differences between rhythms. We are also working to get better at matching pitches when we sing.
April 2015: This month we will continue working on rhythm and pitch echoes. In addition, we will learn about dynamics (loud and soft) in music. We will also begin to listen to and discuss music that has accompaniment and/or no accompaniment.
May and June 2015: We are finishing up the year by learning about the differences between adult male, adult female, and children's voices. We have also been playing percussion instruments and singing a lot.
