What are we learning right now?September 2014: We have been reviewing folk songs. We have learned about 'text painting'. We have also learned that music can be written about specicfic ideas and pictures. We learned about and listened to a famous piece of music by Modest Mussorgsky called "Pictures at An Exhibition".
October 2014: We have begun to practice for this year's Christmas Concert. The concert will be on December 18th and is entitled, "December Nights, December Lights". Please remember that ALL STUDENTS SHOULD ATTEND THE CONCERT. We will also be learning some Halloween songs. November 2014: We will continue to practice for our concert this month. December 2014: We are getting ready for the concert. We are very excited for our performance. January 2015: Our concert last month was fantastic!! This month we created and completed critiques of our Christmas concert. We will also be learning how to sing a descant. Toward the end of the month we will begin to explore different style and genres of music. February 2015: This month we will finish with our comparisons of musical styles. The students will be writing a paper that compares and contrasts rock, folk, and choral versions of the same song. When we finish with that, we will begin to discuss rondo form. March 2015: This month we will continue discussing rondo form. Students will work in groups to compose a rhythmic piece in rondo form. When we finish with that, we will begin to talk about harmony and texture in music. April 2015: This month we will finish up with harmony and texture. The students will be expected to sing rounds and counter-melodies. They will also have to identify different textures when they hear them. May and June 2015: This month we are writing our own rhythmic phrases. We will then learn to play them and teach them to our classmates. We will also be learning about articulations like legato and staccato. |
